Home Energy Professional - Evaluation and Inspection Competency Model
The Home Energy Professional – Evaluation and Inspection Competency Model was developed through a collaborative effort involving the Employment and Training Administration (ETA) and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) to identify the soft skills and foundational competencies, as well as to define the technical knowledge, skills, and abilities, needed by professionals fulfilling evaluation and/or inspection roles within the home performance industry (e.g., Energy Auditors (EAs) and Quality Control inspectors (QCIs)). The model builds on Job Task Analyses (JTA) conducted by NREL to improve the quality of residential retrofits and increase energy savings in the residential market by supporting improved curricula, training, and certification of EAs and QCIs. Development of the model was funded by the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) under the Guidelines for Home Energy Professionals project.
