        Certification Description
        The STCW - Chief Engineer 3,000 kW/4,000 HP or more Management Level is the head of the engineering department on a merchant vessel of any tonnage or horsepower. Chief Engineers manage the safe and efficient operations of all machinery spaces and equipment on board, oversee the engine room, auxiliary equipment, routine maintenance programs, monitor the safe and efficient operation of machinery, and auxiliary equipment, and respond to emergencies, and report events in the appropriate logs. Chief Engineers also observe engine room repairs and work being performed during periods of shoreside maintenance.
