What does this tool do?
The Scholarship Finder helps you find scholarships and other financial assistance for education. It includes more than 9,500 listings for scholarships, fellowships, grants, loans, prizes, and public grants. For each award, you’ll see information including:
- The name of the award
- The organization, company, school, or government agency that offers it
- A brief summary of the award’s purpose
- The level of study that the award can help pay for
- The type (scholarship, grant, loan, or prize)
- The award amount
- The deadline month to apply
How do I get started?
You can get started in one or more of these ways:
-
Browse. You’ll see a full list of all awards in CareerOneStop’s collection. They are arranged in order of the application deadline, so you’ll see the closest deadlines first.
-
Keyword search. Enter a keyword such as “technical,” “math,” “healthcare,” “liberal arts” or a name to narrow your list of results. For instance, you might enter the name of a business you have worked for or that you buy from. Try more than one option for a keyword to make sure you see the most results (for instance, if you want to study to be a veterinarian, you might try “veterinarian” and “animal science.”) The keyword search looks for matches between your keyword and: award name, organization name, field of study, and award purpose.
-
Set filters . You can also use the filters to see only awards for certain award types, locations, level of study, and more.
What can I do with these results?
The results list shows awards that match your search criteria. When you see a scholarship or other award that seems like a good match, click on its name to see more details.
Because there are so many scholarships and other awards, and each one has different rules, it would be easy to get overwhelmed and feel lost! These tips may be helpful:
Filter your results. If you want the tool to show fewer results, try one or more of the filters. These can really help you focus your search!
Sort your results. When you search by a keyword, the most “relevant” matches are shown first – those that most closely match your keyword(s). The further you go down the list, the less closely the awards match your search criteria. You can change the sort order to sort by award name, award amount, or deadline.
Try several different searches. For example, if your interest is in zoology, you can find some matches if you search for the keyword “zoology”; but you can expand your matches by searching for related terms like “animals”, or more general terms like “biology” and even “science” or “STEM”.
Does this include all scholarships available in the entire country?
No. While CareerOneStop tries to collect information about as many awards as possible, there are many more scholarships or grant opportunities that you may be eligible for. Here are some tips to find more:
- Google “scholarships” and visit other websites that offer information on awards. Many nonprofits and other groups collect scholarship information. However, be aware that there are scams out there also. You should NEVER pay money to someone you don’t know to get information about a scholarship.
- Contact a school or college you want to attend, and ask if they have scholarship or grant options.
- If you’re in school now, ask a counselor about scholarships - especially ones that are for graduates of your school, or other local awards they know about.
