SUMMARY OF WORK: Provides general maintenance of streets, parks, cemetery, and other city functions.NATURE OF WORK: This position performs semi-skilled and unskilled labor in the maintenance of the city roads and grounds, Position works with equipment, hazardous liquids and materials, and in street traffic requiring adherence to safety standards. Position works in extreme temperatures and adverse weather. Position occasionally works outside normal hours for emergencies.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Position requires ability to operate trucks, operate power equipment; use hand tools, communicate; hear traffic and machines; have good depth perception; walk distances on uneven ground, visually inspect areas; lift 75 pounds; paint, weld, dig, climb ladders; and follow written instructions.AREAS OF JOB ACCOUNTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE:May be involved in the maintenance or operation of city roads and alleys; asphalt, patches holes, chip seals, crack seals, dust coats alleys. Pours and finishes concrete, hauls gravel and dirt, hauls garbage, washes and sweeps main city streets. Seasonal City Service Worker will operate gasoline or diesel power equipment such as graders, front-end loaders, rollers, backhoes, and small tractor mowers. Also does minor vehicle maintenance and informs supervisor of major problems. Mows and weed-eats ballparks, city hall grounds, cemetery, and parks. Cuts low hanging brush from streets and alleys. Locates grave sites at cemetery. Operates all city sprinkler systems. City Service Worker must occasionally perform duties in all phases of city operations including parks, cemetery, water department, sewage plant, baseball fields and performs other related duties as required.JOB REQUIREMENTS:Knowledge: This position requires knowledge of street maintenance and related equipment, materials, methods and procedures. Knowledge of welding, knowledge of city property and buildings. Knowledge of mechanical maintenance of equipment. Knowledge of CPR and first aid. Skills: This position requires skills in the operations of hand and power tools, trucks and equipment. Abilities: This position requires the ability to be prompt, perform strenuous manual tasks for extended periods of time, lift at least 75 pounds, follow safety procedures, work in extreme temperatures and adverse weather conditions, communicate effectively, follow verbal and written instructions, establish effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, and the public.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:The above knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to:Experience with trucks and heavy equipmentExperience with mowers, weed-eater, and other various small equipmentMust Possess a Valid Montana Driver's License.Must meet all legal requirements of the position.Season is scheduled to begin around June 3, 2024 and continue through August. End date can be flexible for students returning to school.
