Description
The Mason is responsible for all masonry, tile setting and asphalt repairs throughout the PVSC facility and at various off-site locations.
Minimum Requirements
Responsibilities: Responsible for mixing, pouring and floating concrete; laying block and refractory materials. Patches all concrete, block, and asphalt surfaces. Prepares forms, sets tiles and grout. Inspects forms holding concrete to ensure proper construction. Monitors how wind, heat or cold affects the curing of concrete throughout the entire process. Directs the casting of the concrete. Maintains housekeeping standards to promote a safe and efficient work environment.
Minimum Requirements:
High School/Vocational School Diploma or equivalency certificate and a valid New Jersey Driver's License.
Minimum six (6) years' experience in masonry or bricklaying.
Must be available for emergencies and job assignments on a 24-hour basis.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position and carry out oral and written instructions.
Must be able to read and apply simple sketches, diagrams, and blueprints.
Must be proficient is basic arithmetic skills to plan and measure materials.
Must be proficient in concrete repairs, with a working knowledge of related tools, masonry techniques, equipment, materials, and practices.
Must be knowledgeable in the use of safety precautions that must be exercised during masonry tasks.
Working Conditions: Workers are employed in conditions associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system and will be required to work indoors and outdoors.
Physical Demands: Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation to ensure the health and safety of oneself or others is maintained. Perform physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, legs, and the whole body such as climbing (including ladders), lifting up to 50 lbs., balancing, walking, stooping and handling heavy objects. Must qualify for and possess the ability to perform entry into confined spaces while wearing proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as, but not limited to, canister and dust masks as well as SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus), in compliance with PVSC's Facial Hair Grooming Policy.
