This position will serve as the Communications Assistant for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Nassau County (CCE-NC) under the supervision of the Association Operations Manager. The Communications Assistant will assist with marketing and communications outreach efforts for CCE-NC, including social media activity, and CCE-NC events and programs (virtual and in person). This position will assist with the development of marketing, outreach and communication strategies and will promote events and activities through public relations initiatives and networking/collaborating, social efforts, etc. CCE-NC Program Areas to include: Food Systems, LI Taste NY, Nutrition, Health and Wellness, East Meadow Farm, Natural Resources, Urban Forestry, Marine, 4-H Youth Development, D.P.F. 4-H Camp, etc. This position will collaborate with all CCE-NC Program areas to effectively market programs and activities. This position will support program activities and requirements consistent with CCE-NC and LI Taste NY policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree in a field directly relating to marketing/public affairs or Equivalent Education (GED/High School Diploma and one year of transferrable program/functional experience).

  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.

  • Valid NYS Driver License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.

  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience running successful events and fundraisers.

  • Experience with social media and graphic design.

  • Experience working with community organizations and agencies.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively with advisory boards and committees, community and funding partners.

  • Demonstrated strong ability to utilize a variety of marketing channels to effectively target outreach for fundraisers and other events.

  • Demonstrated ability to assist with writing a marketing plan, and have effective marketing practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively participate in professional team efforts.

  • Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to co-workers, advisors, community and professional leaders.

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written and visual means.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize computer technologies for educational and communication purposes (i.e. Internet, Microsoft Office Suite, etc).

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Administrative Responsibilities:

Direction - 5%

  • Provide moderately complex administrative tasks in planning for communication and marketing strategies for Association events and activities through public relation initiatives and networking/collaborating with government, economic, educational, family development and financial organizations.

  • Assist in planning effective strategic external and internal communication efforts and marketing efforts to reach target audiences and meet program objectives.

  • Make recommendations to Program Managers for strengthening and improving marketing plans and social media efforts.

  • Plan mass media efforts and utilize good marketing strategies to generate appropriate public image and messaging.

  • Provide Program Manager with program related information to assist the budget development process.

  • Assist in the planning of events and activities for CCE-NC Programs.

  • Assist in the planning of information campaigns, disseminating information on programs, classes, events and services for the purpose of stimulating interest and participation.

Management - 30%

  • Provide moderately complex administrative management support to the overall organization.

  • Assist in monitoring program to ensure that events and activities conform to policies, meet objectives of the Association and are research-based.

  • Assist with monitoring program financial status to ensure compliance with contract requirements, and adherence to Association strategies/Plan of Work.

  • Assist in solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise in the program utilizing established policies and procedures.

  • Provide low complexity administrative management of established educational program goals.

  • Provide low complexity administrative tasks in guiding the implementation of the communications budget.

  • Ensure all marketing efforts for programs, classes and upcoming events are current and displayed within CCE-NC and on social media (i.e. Facebook).

  • Identify customer needs for marketing and planning purposes.

Coordination/Operation - 60%

  • Assist with maintaining communication with constituents and the community through variety of methods such as newsletters, e-mails, social media, website postings and content.

  • Assist with Constant Contact and email blasts to CCE-NC Supporters.

  • Under the guidance of the Association Operations Manager, serve as liaison with community organizations for marketing and communications.

  • Assist with coordinating and implementing events and activities for CCE-NC Programs.

  • Coordinate and promote events and activities for CCE-NC programs.

  • Provide information as requested to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board and others as necessary.

  • Produce and coordinate promotional and written materials and products for command-wide dissemination including pamphlets, brochures, flyers, booklets, photographs, posters, cards, displays and news articles.

  • Assist with social media (i.e. Facebook) to including posting and sharing information and identifying appropriate local community information to be shared.

  • Assist with creating and updating CCE-NC website page content.

  • Maintain communication with Association Operations Manager, IT Coordinator, Executive office, and Program Leaders to provide updated information on classes, events and activities as it becomes available.

Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.

  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

POSITION DETAILS:

This position is a part-time, non-exempt position, 52.5% FTE, 21 hours per week. The hourly rate for this position is $18.65.
