The College of Agricultural Sciences encompasses five departments: Agricultural Biology, Agricultural and Resource Economics, Animal Sciences, Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, and Soil and Crop Sciences. CAS is committed to providing students with high-quality undergraduate and graduate learning experiences in an inclusive and welcoming environment.

As part of the Dean's Office, the CAS Communications Team provides central coordination of the college's internal and external communication efforts, including branding, social and digital media, news and media relations.

Position Summary

A vital member of the College of Agricultural Sciences communications team, the Multimedia Communications Coordinator is a creative and skilled communicator who brings new ideas to the table, is passionate about creating engaging digital content, and excels in a collaborative team environment. This position is responsible for creating compelling, audience-appropriate, multi-channel, on-brand and on-trend videos, photos, copy and graphics that engage and build relationships with target audiences (current and prospective students, alumni, donors, faculty/staff and external stakeholders). This position will manage, organize and implement a wide range of projects to support strategic initiatives, build affinity and increase the college's profile among internal and external audiences. The Multimedia Communications Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the voice and tone of the college on social media channels like Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.

This position will serve as part of the CAS communications team and work collaboratively with the departments and units of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Agricultural Experiment Station, as well as the Division of Marketing and Communications and other campus partners.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Completed bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or related field at the time of hire.

  • Minimum of one year of experience in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations or related field. Experience may include internships and student employment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience creating, editing and distributing multimedia assets, including videos and graphics, to multiple audiences across digital and/or social platforms

  • Experience managing social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

  • Flexibility to occasionally work non-standard hours including evenings and weekends as required for coverage of special events.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of social media trends

  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively and to prioritize competing demands

  • Ability to take initiative and work autonomously on projects

  • Experience evaluating communications efforts via analytics

  • Develop compelling, inclusive, and on-brand videos, photos, graphics and copy, managing the process from conceptualization to implementation.

  • Research, write, design and edit engaging content for multiple channels and platforms (social media, website, newsletters, news releases).

  • Manage content and engagement on college social media platforms using analytics to track success and drive future strategy.

  • Partner with College of Agricultural Sciences Communications team and the Division of Marketing and Communications to develop and place content promoting achievements, research, student success and other stories of interest both in internal channels and external media.

  • Work collaboratively with students, department/unit communicators and clients on projects while providing a high level of customer service.

  • Train department/unit and student staff members in best practices for developing content on all platforms.

  • Manage communication projects, adjusting assignments and deadlines as priorities shift.

  • Create and manage social media content calendar in alignment with editorial calendar.

  • Utilize project management software to align tasks and complete projects while adhering to deadlines.

  • Maintain organized file folder structure for all projects.
