About the Role:

In this highly strategic role, as the VP of Tax at Confluent, you will own and oversee all global tax, compliance, and reporting efforts, including designing, developing, and implementing policies to help optimize Confluent's overall tax position. You will provide thought leadership to the CFO, CAO, and Finance leadership team on tax strategy and optimization and collaborate cross-functionally with various leaders across the business. You will serve as a subject matter expert on all tax-related matters and be responsible for growing, developing, and mentoring a high-performing tax team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

The ideal candidate is an experienced tax professional with at least 15+ years of experience with large multinational publicly traded corporations (including Big 4 experience), strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, and the ability to communicate, influence, and work with people at all levels in the organization. Prior leadership experience as head of the tax department, partner or principal at a Big 4 firm, and/or experience working at an enterprise software company is a plus.

Due to the fast-paced and high-growth nature of the Company, the candidate must be detail-oriented, have strong organization and communication skills, and be willing to roll up their sleeves when needed.

This position is remote eligible, will report to the Chief Accounting Officer, and will be a key member of the CFO leadership team.

What You Will Do:

  • Oversee and lead Confluent's global tax function, ensuring timely and accurate computation and reporting of all tax-related financial information in compliance with the SEC, ASC 740, and other regulatory requirements

  • Own Confluent's global tax strategy, including the design, development, and implementation of policies to help optimize Confluent's overall tax position, including optimization of legal and operational structures

  • Proactively lead tax planning initiatives for enacted and pending legislation that may impact Confluent's tax position, including BEAT, GILTI, OECD Pillar 2, etc.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, Go-to-Market, and other business functions on the tax implications related to strategic initiatives, customer/vendor transactions, M&A, and international expansion

  • Grow, develop, and mentor a high-performing tax team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement

  • Manage relationships with external auditors, consultants, and specialists, discussing and resolving issues efficiently with technical expertise

  • Lead all tax aspects of the Company's global SOX program

What You Will Bring:

  • 15+ years of experience with large multinational publicly traded corporations, including Big 4 experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and a professional designation, such as CPA or MST

  • Prior leadership experience as head of the tax department and/or experience working at an enterprise software company is a plus

  • Deep knowledge of corporate tax strategy, standards, and governance

  • Experience designing, developing, and implementing global tax strategies is a plus

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to communicate, influence, and work with people at all levels in the organization

  • Excellent analytical skills, detail-oriented with a consultative approach to corporate tax strategy

  • Proven ability to research complex tax issues and recommend effective solutions

  • Strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and the ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced, high-growth environment

This position has an annual estimated salary of $251,730 - $314,685, an annual bonus, and a competitive equity package.
