The Sexton business fits within the ITW Drawform Division and is a market leader in the manufacture of high-pressure aerosol cans and after-market filter shells and is seeking a Human Resources Intern to work part time for its Decatur, AL facility, located 30 minutes Southwest of the Huntsville area.

Directly assist the HR Manager with a wide range of activities related to recruitment & onboarding, training, benefits, payroll and other administrative duties. The position offers the candidate the ability to apply classroom learning to a real-world setting. Coordinate and manage many of the day-to-day functions of the Human Resources Department, to ensure that the department runs smoothly.

Essential Functions :

  • Maintain and update confidential information related to employee records, including both hard copy and computer records.

  • Review candidate resumes, schedule and coordinate interviews with hiring team.

  • Support the pre-employment process for prospective candidates and the onboarding process for new hires.

  • Coordinate new employee orientation activities and benefits enrollment procedures.

  • Support administration of temp timekeeping.

  • Assist employees on a day-to-day basis with benefit questions and issues.

  • Assist with the coordination of training programs and employee professional development.

  • Compose and revise various correspondence, reports, forms, flyers and other information using acceptable business formats including newsletter and company announcements. Proofread final copy for errors.

  • Answer routine inquires from inside and outside the company on employment verifications, benefits claims processing, and job openings.

  • Make necessary meeting and catering arrangements for activities, including the ordering of meals or refreshments, set up and clean up.

  • Support the issuance of employee/temp access cards and maintain computer program files for accurate employee access schedules.

  • Administer uniform, safety shoe and safety glass programs, keeping accurate records and issuing authorization forms as needed.

  • Support employee relations programs, activities and events such as Wellness, Focus Group, United Way Campaigns, birthday and holiday celebrations.

  • Distribute anniversary and probationary review forms to appropriate manager/supervisor on a monthly basis, monitor completion of reviews and process any payroll/status changes.

  • Complete other duties as assigned or directed.

  • Undergraduate student attending an accredited university with an emphasis in Human Resources, Communications, Business Administration, Organizational Development or similar field of study.

  • Must be detail and service oriented.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to work 15-20 hours per week.

  • Demonstrate knowledge concerning general safety protocol and procedures regarding field operations.

  • Ability to work independently, manage projects and complete assignments in a timely manner.

  • Self-starter; works with minimal supervision; capable of offering up and making decisions.

  • Effective oral, interpersonal and written communication skills.

  • Team-player with aptitude to learn the ITW culture and work within a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to maintain keen vision and mental awareness while practicing careful attention to detail.

  • Ability to collaborate with team members to support troubleshooting, problem solving, root cause analysis, and related process improvement activities.
