License Description A license is necessary for installing or replacing a pump in a drinking water well. Prerequisites: Must complete an exam and be approved by Department of Natural Resource (DNR) staff. Exams are offered at a different DNR station the first Wednesday of even numbered months. New licenses are effective from the date the initial fee is received until 12/31 of the calendar year. Fees: $50 Renewal licenses are valid for 1 year beginning on 1/1 and ending on 12/31; Continuing Education: 6 hour continuing education class. These hours must be acquired at Department of Natural Resources (DNR) approved sessions. The DNR and Wisconsin Water Well Association jointly present about 8 sessions, throughout the winter months. The four hour portion of education must be at one of these 8 sessions. Attending the entire day completes the required 6 hours.
