License Description Accountants compile, analyze, and prepare financial reports for individuals and businesses. They specialize in auditing, tax accounting, management consulting or budgeting and control. General accountants may devise budget and cost systems, maintain records and balance the books. Auditors examine bookkeeping records of clients for accuracy and completeness. Tax accountants prepare tax returns for individuals, businesses or corporations and may analyze the effects of taxes on certain business decisions. Management consultants offer advice on a variety of matters, such as revising accounting systems and recommending data processing systems. Accountants may also serve as internal revenue agents or investigators and bank examiners.
