Counselor - School
License Description School counselors must have an elementary or secondary counseling endorsement. To qualify for an endorsement to serve as an elementary or secondary school counselor, a person must: 1) Hold a master's or more advanced degree in school counseling, or 2) Hold a specialty credential as a National Certified Counselor issued by the National Board for Certified Counselors, or 3) Hold a master's or a more advanced degree with a major in counseling and meet the additional counseling experience and graduate coursework requirements specified by the Department, or 4) Hold a master's or a more advanced degree, and have at least 2 years of teaching or school counseling experience, and meet the additional counseling experience and graduate coursework requirements specified by the Department. Visit the Department website for more information on the additional counseling experience and coursework referred to in items 3 and 4. Fees are subject to change. The initial application fee is $161.
