License Description The State Board of Contractors issues licenses in the following contractor primary classifications which are not listed separately. Primary Classification AB--General Engineering and General Building Primary Classification C6--Erecting Signs Primary Classification C7--Elevation and Conveyance Primary Classification C9--Movement of Buildings Primary Classification C11--Spraying Mixtures Containing Cement Primary Classification C13--Using Sheet Metal Primary Classification C24--Erecting Scaffolds and Bleachers Primary Classification C25--Fencing and Equipping Playgrounds Primary Classification C26--Institutional Contracting Primary Classification C27--Individual Sewerage Primary Classification C28--Fabricating Tanks Primary Classification C30--Installing Equipment to Treat Water Primary Classification C31--Wrecking Primary Classification C36--Installing Urethane Primary Classification C37--Solar Contracting Primary Classification C38--Installing Equipment Used With Liquefied Petroleum and Natural Gas Primary Classification C39--Installing Heaters Primary Classification C40--Specialties Not Authorized by Other Classifications Primary Classification C41--Fire Protection Primary Classification C42--Constructing, Altering, or Improving Community Antenna Television Systems Primary Classification E1--Owner/Builder Not to Exceed Three Stories (B-2 examination) Primary Classification E2--Owner/Builder Exceeding Three Stories (B examination) Applicants must: 1) Have four years of experience as a journeyman, foreman, supervising employee or contractor in the specific classification in which he/she is applying. The experience must have been obtained within the preceding 10 years. Training received at an accredited college or university may be used to satisfy a portion of the required experience. 2) Prove financial responsibility (the board determines the amount of the bond that will be required.) 3) Possess good character and provide 4 reference certificates from individuals with firsthand knowledge of the applicant's experience. 4) Pass the Contractors Management Survey (CMS) exam. 5) Pass the applicable trade exam, if required for the specific license. Exams are given daily in Las Vegas, on various days in Reno, and on a limited basis in Elko. Visit the website for more detailed information on the requirements and application process. Fees may be subject to change. Fees are: initial application--$300; initial license and biennial renewal--$600; Residential Recovery Fund Assessment (for residential contractors only) based upon monetary license limit--$200 - $1,000; CMS and Trade exam: exam provider sets the fee.
