Pesticide Applicator
License Description
Occupational Description
All persons who use restricted-use pesticides must be certified and licensed by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture. There are three types of pesticide applicator licenses: Commercial Applicator Certification- Required for persons who apply RUPs to the land of another for hire. Also required for person who apply general-use pesticides (GUPs) for hire to protect structures, lawns, or ornamental plantings. Non-Commercial Certification- Required for persons who apply RUPs solely to sites owned or controlled by their employer. Includes employees of city, county, and state governments. Required for persons applying any pesticide for vector control on behalf of a political subdivision of the state. Private Applicator Certification- Required for persons who apply restricted-use pesticides (RUPs) in the production of an agricultural commodity to land they own or rent. There are 16 categories relating to specific types of pesticide applications made by an individual. Licensure Requirements
Contact your local county extension office concerning Private Applicator Certification. To become certified either as a Non-Commercial or Commercial Pesticide Applicator in Nebraska, a person must pass the state General Standards exam and at least one specific category exam.
Fees
Commercial Applicator License Fee- $90.00 Non-Commercial Applicator License- No Fee Private Applicator License Fee- $25.00
Renewal
Commercial and Private Pesticide Applicator licenses must be renewed every three years. Renewal requires participation in continuing education through attending state-approved training courses, and payment of any corresponding license rnewal fees.
