Viatical Settlement Broker
License Description
Occupational Description
A Viatical Settlement Broker is a person, including a Life Insurance Producer, who, working exclusively on behalf of a viator and for a fee, commission, or other valuable consideration, offers or attempts to negotiate viatical settlement contracts between a viator and one or more viatical settlement providers or one or more Viatical Settlement Brokers.
Licensure Requirements
Applicants must hold a valid Life Insurance Producer license in the State of Nebraska and be at least 18 years of age. If the applicant does not hold an active life insurance license, then they must pass the viatical settlements exam and submit to the Department of Insurance evidence of financial responsibility in the amount of $250,000 through either a surety bond or a deposit of cash, certificates of deposit, or securities.

Original License -$40.00
Renewal
Licenses expire on the last day of the individual's birth month in the first year after issuance in which his or her age is divisible by two. Therefore, individuals born in even numbered years renew their license at the end of their birth month in the even numbered years and individuals born in odd numbered years renew their license at the end of their birth month in the odd numbered years. Licenses may be renewed beginning 90 days before their expiration dates. The renewal fee is $40.00. Resident viatical settlement brokers who are not life licensed will be required to complete fifteen (15) hours of continuing education to qualify for renewal, which must include three hours of ethics training.
