License Description The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) licenses contractors who construct, repair, and seal wells and borings.

Limited Bored Geothermal Heat Exchanger Contractor

A limited vertical heat exchanger contractor may construct, repair, and seal vertical heat exchangers.

An applicant must have two years of experience related to the construction, repair and sealing of excavations or borings for the installation of vertical heat exchangers or must have two years of experience related to construction, repair, and sealing of water-supply wells and be certified by the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (or equivalent).

If you are using your experience as a vertical heat exchanger contractor a year of experience is a year in which you the applicant personally installed three separate permitted systems, with a total of 2,000 feet of vertical heat exchanger piping.

If you are using your experience as a well contractor a year of experience is a year in which you the applicant installed five water-supply wells.
