License Description
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Examines, restores, treats, and preserves the structures and tissues of diseased teeth and the mouth. May be classified according to specialty, such as Endodontist, Oral Pathologist, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Orthodontist, Pediatric Dentist, Periodontist, Prosthodontist, etc. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Graduate with a DDS or DMD Degree from dental programs accredited by the American Dental Association. Specialists are required to secure additional educational training. EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS Schedule of examinations are determined by Southern Regional Testing, Inc., Central Regional Board, Northeast Regional Board, or the Western Regional Board who administers the testing. Written National Boards are required. GENERAL INFORMATION for LICENSURE or CERTIFICATION Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. There are no residency requirements. Must be of good moral character. License must be renewed biennially by December 31. Initial licensure fee is $60.00 with the annual licensure renewal fee being $90.00. CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (after licensure or certification) Fifteen (15) points annually, ten (10) of which must be scientific based. Must have HIV course annually and CPR biennially. Proof required in the event of audit.
