Pest Control Aircraft Pilot Certificate
License Description Any person who operates any aircraft for the purpose of pest control. There are two classifications of pest control aircraft pilots: apprentice (entry level) and journeyman. This includes pilots employed by licensed pest control businesses or vector control agencies, or those who perform pest control on their own property with the use of an aircraft. Exemptions: N/A Fees: Initial application: $60; Renewal: $45 each year. Examination Fee: $50 Examination Frequency: Every month. Exam Locations: Varies Requirements: There are two certificates issued to pest control aircraft pilots. The first certificate issued is an Apprentice Pilot Certificate (entry level). In order to obtain the Apprentice Pilot Certificate, the applicant must possess a valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Commercial Pilot Certificate, or if performing pest control on your own property, a valid FAA Private Pilot Certificate. In addition, each pilot must possess a current Medical Certificate issued by the FAA. The apprentice pilot is eligible to apply for the second certificate, Journeyman Pilot Certificate, upon completion of at least 1 year and 150 hours in a fixed-wing aircraft or 50 hours in a helicopter applying pesticides while supervised by a certified Journeyman Pilot. Average Time to Process Application: 30 days. Renewal Period: Biennially (every second year). Special License Requirements: Twenty hours of approved continuing education during each two-year certificate period. Included in the 20 hours of continuing education are at least four hours pertaining to pesticide or pest control laws and regulations, and at least four hours pertaining to aerial pest control equipment and application techniques.
