Advanced Practice Registered Nurse: Certified Nurse Practitioner
License Description The Certified Nurse Practitioner provides for the health care needs of patients through advanced assessment, identification of health states including abnormal conditions, diagnosing, treatment and evaluation. As health care providers, they perform physical examinations; order and interpret lab and x-ray studies; diagnose and treat acute health problems such as infections and injuries; diagnose, treat and monitor chronic conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure; and provide health maintenance, screenings and immunizations. Certified Nurse Practitioner specialties approved by the Board include Adult/Gerontological (Acute and Primary Care), Pediatric (Acute and Primary Care), Family, Neonatal, Women's Health, and Psychiatric/Mental Health. Requirements: 1) Must possess an active license as a Registered Nurse in Arkansas or privilege to practice on a Registered Nurse compact state license. 2) Successful completion of an organized graduate level program of nursing education that prepares nurses for the advanced practice role of advanced nurse practitioner. 3) Hold a current certification by a national certifying body recognized by the Board. 4) Criminal background check and FBI fingerprint check required. 5) Exam applicants must have practiced a minimum of 2,000 hours as an RN. Written and oral examinations required. License fee: $125.00 initial, Renewal fee: $65.00 biennially, Temporary Permit fee: $30.00
