Designated Duty Engineer
License Description Requirements to obtain a United States Coast Guard license as a Designated Duty Engineer include specified service time at sea, with experience as a Qualified Member of the Engine Department (QMED) on a vessel of specified horsepower. Other requirements include passing a written exam, a physical exam, and completion of a first aid course and a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course within the past 12 months.
