Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC)
License Description
Under the direct supervision of a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, Licensed Associate Counselors provide counseling to individuals, groups, organizations, corporations, institutions, government agencies or the general public for monetary remuneration otherwise implying licensure, training, experience, and/or expertise in counseling and who holds a current, valid license to practice counseling under the supervision of a Licensed Professional Counselor. Counseling is not restricted to, but may include, counseling, appraisal, consultation, referral, and research. Counseling is the act of assisting an individual or groups of people to develop an understanding of their personal problems, to help define their goals, to plan their actions toward reaching these goals, and to bring out their interests, abilities, aptitudes, and needs. Requirements: 1) Must possess a graduate degree that is primarily professional counseling in content from a regionally accredited institution. The graduate semester hours must meet the national academic and training content standards adopted by the Board or the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) 2) Must demonstrate professional competencies by passing written examinations and/or oral interviews as prescribed by the Board. 3) Must arrange supervision with a Board-approved Licensed Associate Counselor supervisor and have the plan/agreement for supervision approved by the Board prior to license issue. 4) Must complete a criminal background check. Application packet: Free from Web Site, Application fee: $100.00, License fee: $200.00, Renewal fee: $200.00 each two years.
