License Description

A radiologist assistant is an advanced-level radiologic technologist who enhances patient care by extending the capacity of the radiologist in the diagnostic imaging environment. The radiologist assistant is an A.R.R.T.-certified (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) radiographer who has completed an advanced academic program encompassing a nationally recognized radiologist assistant curriculum and a radiologist-directed clinical preceptorship. With radiologist supervision, the radiologist assistant performs patient assessment, patient management, fluoroscopy and other radiology procedures. The radiologist assistant also makes initial observations of diagnostic images, but does not provide an official interpretation (final written report) as defined by the ACR Standard for Communication, Diagnostic Radiology.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from a radiologist assistant educational program and a radiologist directed clinical preceptorship leading to a baccalaureate degree or equivalent from an institution offering a program accredited by an entity recognized by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists for certification purposes.
EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS:
The American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (A.R.R.T) certification will substitute for all examinations required by the Board and will be the basis for radiologist assistant certification.
