License Description
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST
An occupational therapist is engaged in evaluation, treatment or consultation regarding specific occupational therapy services. The occupational therapist may teach daily living skills, develop perceptual and motor skills, and develop prevocational and avocational abilities.
REQUIREMENTS:
Be at least 18 years of age and satisfy experience, education, and examination requirements. (Limited permits may be obtained for applicants who are scheduled for initial examination and will be effective until eight weeks following the exam or until the scores are received by the Committee. An applicant who fails the initial exam may apply for renewal of the limited permit, which will be effective until eight weeks after the next exam or until scores are received by the Committee.)
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Successful completion of at least six (6) months of supervised field work.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Successful completion of a program in occupational therapy approved by the Board and accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education of the AMA in collaboration with the American Occupational Therapy Association
EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS:
Successful completion of the national examination prepared by the American Occupational Therapy Association (NBCOT).
RENEWAL REQUIREMENTS
Every two years.
