Forester
License Description Foresters manage forested lands for economic, recreational, and conservation purposes. They may inventory the type, amount, and location of standing timber, appraise the timber's worth, negotiate the purchase, and draw up contracts for procurement. Foresters may determine how to conserve wildlife habitats, creek beds, water quality, and soil stability, and how best to comply with environmental regulations. They may devise plans for planting and growing new trees, monitor trees for healthy growth, and determine the best time for harvesting. They develop forest management plans for public and privately-owned forested lands. All individuals using "Forester" in connection with the person's name or otherwise assume, use or advertise any title or description that the person is a forester must be licensed and registered according to Ark. Code Ann. 17-31-101. Requirements: (1) A bachelor's or advanced degree in forestry from a college or university program accredited by the Society of American Foresters; (2) A bachelor's or advanced degree in forestry from a college or university program not accredited by the Society of American Foresters and three (3) years or more experience in forestry work of a nature satisfactory to the commission; (3) A bachelor's degree in a natural resources-related field from a college or university program, including, but not limited to, wildlife management, with at least twenty (20) semester hours of forestry courses approved by the commission and three (3) years' or more experience in forestry work of a nature satisfactory to the commission; (4) A bachelor's degree not related to natural resources from a college or university program and six (6) years' or more experience in forestry work of a nature satisfactory to the commission; or (5) A two-year associate's degree in forestry and six (6) years' or more experience in forestry work of a nature satisfactory to the commission.
